Matthew Stephens (He/Him) is a visual artist working and living on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen people. Growing up in Vancouver he was able to develop his skills as a potter before moving to Victoria to attend the University of Victoria to work towards completing a double major in Earth and Ocean Science and Visual Arts. This combination of degrees has influenced some environmental undertones within his work. While studying in the UVIC Visual Arts program, Matthew was able to branch out and explore a variety of different practices and mediums. His primary practice now is contemporary abstract sculpture; however, he will always love practicing pottery and also enjoys exploring environmentally themed photography and video art.
